The Spah
Stories of Downtown
The Spah. Owner, Connie Bourgoin
When visiting the businesses of Downtown Belleville you get to take in the beautiful facade of the store front, discover unique local and international products and dine on delicious food. You may catch a glimpse of the owner as they wize by, the life of a small business owner is hectic- they want to engage with the customer though they also must be the boss, the marketing expert, the cleaner, the server, the accountant and that could all be before noon! We wanted to give those business owners an opportunity to slow down for a moment and share their stories. Because behind each storefront are people who had a dream and put in a whole lot of work to make it come to life. These are some of the stories of Downtown Belleville.
Connie Bourgoin opened The Spah on 186 Front Street in Downtown Belleville 12 years ago, after being in the aesthetics industry for 17 years. Connie grew up in the area, living only a few streets down on Ann Street, she remembers coming and spending countless hours shopping in the Downtown with her friends on weekends as a teen. Connie began providing quality classic aesthetics in the unit above The Salon for many years before opening her current storefront. As soon as you enter The Spah, you are enveloped in a calming aroma and music, to create the ultimate relaxation experience and space. The Spah offers a wide variety of quality services including, facials, waxing/sugaring, manicures, pedicures, teeth whitening and more.
Connie gave us her thoughts on how it feels to have a business in the Downtown Core; “Downtown Belleville has a strong sense of community, people are very supportive and there are always lots of smiles, it really is the friendliest city”. She also pointed out that the downtown area is an amazing network and the tremendous support from store owners alongside clients makes it a great area to be in. Along with bliss and serenity comes determined work, Connie noticed a disconnect between the ergonomics of pedicure stations and its aesthetics so Connie hand crafted her own. Easing the work for her staff and herself and increasing the relaxation for her clients; Many clients have told Connie that “The Spah is a house of healing.”
It was wonderful getting the chance to speak with Connie and learn more about one of the beautiful shops in Downtown Belleville. Before we left we had to ask one last tough question, what is her favourite cafe/restaurant downtown? “My favourite restaurant has to be Dinkel’s, and for cafes, I visit Quinte Corner quite often” Connie replied.
