Faces Behind the Facades: She’s High on Vibes

In this blog series, we’ll pull back the entrepreneurial curtain to meet the faces behind the façades in our Downtown District.

“And they all lived happily ever after.” Seriously? It’s another Covid February, the groundhogs are arguing, there’s Valentine’s Day, and six more week of winter whether you like it or not. What does this quote have to do with anything? Let’s take a look.

According to phrases.org, in the 16th century “happy [in the] ever after” meant eternal happiness in heaven, which migrated into the 18th century “happy ever after”, meaning “together forever in wedded bliss”.

In the 20th century “Happily ever after” or “Happy ever after” were typically used as a formulaic ending to a fairy tale or children’s story, or in romantic novels to describe wedded bliss. Not any more.

Welcome to the 21st century and She’s High on Vibes, located at 1 Bridge Street East in the Downtown District.

The face behind this façade belongs to local entrepreneur Melissa Brant, who focusses on the individual “happily ever after” of each of her clients. As an Indigenous woman, she proudly shares her culture through encouraging others to heal with balance: physical (movement/dance), emotional (mindset coaching), spiritual (meditation), and mental (art). Her intention is for other women to look at her and say, “That woman went after everything she wanted…and manifested it. If she can, so can I.”

Life was not always like this for Melissa. In her younger days, her life was controlled by fear of the unknown—the legacy of childhood trauma which left her needing to control every aspect of her life to feel safe. Once she understood the impact of living in chronic fear, she chose to live in love, to start living “on purpose”, to be resilient, intentional, grateful.

Melissa offers a safe environment for the practices that turned her life around: mindfulness, life energy and self-love; meditation and movement; creative art and flow. In her own words, “You deserve to live the life you desire.”

In Melissa’s relaxing guided meditation sessions, you learn to “let go of energy that is not serving you and create space for pure life force energy that helps the body heal and thrive.”

As an added feature of her business, Melissa offers a wide array of creative services: murals, canvas and digital art commissions, abstract, Indigenous, pop art, portraits, chalk art, seasonal window painting as well as face and body painting.

Just imagine the vibe that would be created if we all woke up daily to beautiful paintings of ourselves on our walls as visual reminders to approach each day with Love and Confidence.”
