Audiences don’t just listen to Taverna. They fall in love! Irresistable South American musicians, whose passion, camaraderie, and warmth reveal the true Celtic spirit in all of us.
Taverna Duo – Brazil’s premier Celtic duo – features long-time friends and bandmates Gustavo Fofão and Rafael Salobreña. Soul-baring, seafaring, kilt-wearing Celts who just happened to be born in South America. One infuses the music with fingerstyle guitar wizardry and thundering vocals, while using the stage as a percussion instrument. The other is the band’s secret weapon for high energy and dynamics, driving the beat on his “punk rock” bodhran with a wink and a grin.
Playing iconic songs from the Celtic repertoire and powered by rocket fuel, they impact the crowd with high-energy stage dynamics, captivating harmonies, and original arrangements that showcase the incredible mastery each has of their instruments. The final product is a unique party session, bringing audiences of all ages to their feet and singing along.
Taverna are joined for this show by Irish Millie – a phenomenal teenage fiddler from Peterborough, Ontario and 2024 CFMA Performer of the Year Nominee.
Irish Millie recorded her first album – Thirteen – at 13 years old. That project earned her a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Young Performer of the Year. Together with her band The Receivers, she was nominated for the same award in 2023 and in 2024 for her EP The Trilogy.
She’s toured across Canada, in the US and Europe – and released her second full-length CD, Grace this spring!
“I love all fiddle music. I am passionate about the East Coast, Bluegrass and Contemporary Trad styles. I love to play fast-paced, fun, and challenging tunes that get the crowd up on their feet. I also love to write my own music.”
Pineapple Productions is pleased and proud to be able to present this rare opportunity to introduce our region to the unexpected pleasures of Taverna along with the pride of Peterborough – teenage fidling phenom – Irish Millie!
PLEASE NOTE: Advance Tickets are available online only until midnight Thursday, August 7. Advance Tickets are not available on the day of the show. At-the-door Tickets – if available – are $30 (cash only).
