When we first began looking at BridgeFront Tower at 1 Bridge St. East as a possible location for the Belleville Downtown Improvement Area, there was one detractor. The main floor had a large retail space that was in need of some TLC. It had been empty for a couple of years and had fallen into a state of disrepair. The building is on a prime corner lot so it has a lot of exposure to walking and driving traffic downtown.
More Challenges Come To Light
At the same time, we had another challenge at the north end of the street. We had one retailer that had become surrounded by vacant buildings, leaving it on a bit of an island as it was a far walk from the main retail hub. The store was owned and operated by a talented interior designer and also was overstocked with a few large furniture items.
We believe with challenges, there is always an opportunity! We linked the property owner at the BridgeFront Tower with the interior designer and voila! After a few weeks of clean up at the corner property and a lot of furniture lugging on the part of Dianne from Up Front Gallery & Home, we now have beautifully dressed windows on the corner of Front and Bridge.
