Belleville Convenience Opens in Downtown Belleville
Belleville Convenience celebrated its Grand Opening on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025 in Downtown Belleville, offering a wide range of grocery items and services.
Mayor Neil Ellis and Councillors Garnet Thompson and Margaret Seu, MPP Tyler Allsopp, Jill Raycroft from the Belleville Chamber of Commerce, and Danielle Hanoman, Executive Director of the DBIA were present at the ribbon-cutting.
The store, located on 318 Front Street, carries basic grocery items, snacks, pet food, over-the-counter medicine, gift cards, beer and wine, and unique finds like jewellery, sunglasses, and over 60 specialty-flavoured bottled drinks.
Customers can also access services such as a Bitcoin machine, an ATM, and parcel services through Penguin Pickup.
The three owners—Priyansh Kevat, Darshan Balar and Rahul Dodia—met at Loyalist College in Toronto as they studied IT and cloud computing.
They initially considered opening a store in Toronto, but steep rental costs in the city made the idea out of reach. Belleville, however, checked all the right boxes.
“The business opportunities are very nice in Belleville,” said Balar. “It’s cheaper in rent, and has a decent population. So we chose Belleville, specifically Downtown Belleville.”
“In Toronto, things are crazy and expensive,” said Kevat. “Here, it’s a peaceful place, and there’s less competition for us.”
Kevat said the group chose to open in Downtown Belleville as it is the “heart of the city”.
Belleville Convenience is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to midnight, making it one of the few downtown businesses with extended late-night hours.
“We have everything you need at a cheaper rate,” Kevat said.
