Downtown Businesses working together: a win/win for everyone
When we first began looking at BridgeFront Tower at 1 Bridge St. East as a possible location for the Belleville Downtown Improvement Area, there was one detractor. The main floor had a large retail space that was in need of some TLC. It had been empty for a couple of years and had fallen into a state of disrepair. The building is on a prime corner lot so it has a lot of exposure to walking and driving traffic downtown.
At the same time, we had another challenge at the north end of the street. We had one retailer that had become surrounded by vacant buildings, leaving it on a bit of an island as it was a far walk from the main retail hub. The store was owned and operated by a talented interior designer and also was overstocked with a few large furniture items.
We believe with challenges, there is always an opportunity! We linked the property owner at the BridgeFront Tower with the interior designer and voila! After a few weeks of clean up at the corner property and a lot of furniture lugging on the part of Dianne from Up Front Gallery & Home, we now have beautifully dressed windows on the corner of Front and Bridge.
The added benefit for Dianne is that she has prime retail space to showcase some of her inventory and her talent for interior design and window dressing. To help people find Up Front Gallery and Home, which is located at 313 Front St. in downtown Belleville, we have listed the number of steps to her brick and mortar store – only 500 steps north of the corner – and who doesn’t need steps on any given day!
For the downtown, it brightens up a vacant space while it waits for a new business to move in. It’s a win/win for all involved!
